  1. Today worked on system to allow NPC's to respond to people approaching them. IE they can/will greet you if you just walk up to them without saying anything. It has bugs to pick through still, lots of edge cases and script memory is a bit of an issue.

It's also possible to talk NPC's into walking to places or people, their decision making system is in use and they will use the AI to make decisions.

Seiiki town development has been on-hold this year, as we have been waiting for PBR to reach the grid.

Now, finally, PBR is rolling out to SecondLife over the coming weeks.

Seiiki Phase 1 Development is going to begin very soon. The following area is the Phase 1 Zone that we will be working on in 2024.

    image.thumb.png.f74b9fa3e781568991f01cbb61afc5a0.png

It will be a complete redevelopment, and look nothing like what is already there. If you've got nostalgia for the old layout, visit it now because it'll be gone in a few weeks depending on when PBR simulator updates reach Kokoro!

  4. NPC's gained some new temporal awareness, they see who entered/left a scene and when in a conversation, which should make them less likely to talk to people who aren't there anymore or ignore people entering the scene (Hopefully..)

  5. Changed today: Added documentation about Safe Exit, along with new exit commands

  6. I should actually use this thing shouldn't I

  7. Short Answer: No. https://kokoro.academy/kb/sim/appearance-guidelines/#6 Kokoro has the style of a high school visual novel, students do not use bodies that would undermine this aesthetic. Also, Kokoro only wishes to support anime bodies made by anime creators to help them grow and thrive.
  8. This club has been approved, and is now recruiting members. If you would like to sign up, please register your interest below and provide your general availability in SLT.
  9. Welcome to Kokoro Peachy, see ya around
  10. 📸 Yearbook Photo 2023 Our Yearbook photo will happen on the 17th of September at 2PM SLT this year! Mark your calendar so you don't forget! We want all of you in our picture!
  11. This article is a WIP! It will be updated with new information as time progresses. ---- So what's all this about NPC's then? We began adding Non-Player Characters (NPCs) to the sim in 2023 as a bit of a side project. The hope is to make the sim more immersive with characters that roam and carry out daily life. We also want to use them as Roleplay Aides to help people practice Roleplaying and have fun doing so. They also make for funny chat partners. We hope you will enjoy the sense of ongoing life the NPCs provide as they roam and carry out the daily life that occurs at Kokoro. Identifying NPCs There are several ways to distinguish NPC's from real players. They have a grey dot on the school's mini-map, whilst real players are shown in green. They have usernames in the format `kokoroNPC01KogeInaba`. The about section of their profiles will mention that they are an NPC/Scripted Agent. Chatting? Roleplay Aides? Yes! We've pioneered a fairly unique feature at Kokoro using a Language model to enable our characters to have somewhat cohesive chats and roleplays with you. How does it work? Our NPC's work basically like an autocomplete except it's on steroids. They can have fairly cohesive chats and Roleplays with you. You just talk to them in local chat like you would another player. Each NPC in our sim has it's own unique personality and roles. From shrine maidens to students to burger-flippers, to the fun and bouncy and the jaded. Memory / Storage of Conversations We've developed some technology to allow our NPC's to remember your encounters with them, but due to the limits of the technology at time of writing, our NPC's only have a very limited ability to remember the details. We hope to improve this in the future as the technology improves. Our NPC's can remember only the most recent of discussion with you in full detail. Can it get Spicy? Yes, since our bots are intended for fictitious Roleplay scenarios, they are uncensored and without filter. They'll quite happily Roleplay and chat the explicit, the violent, the politically incorrect etc. They will Roleplay the best of humanity, and also the worst, and we think that makes the roleplay much more interesting and entertaining. Our sim is adult rated and our NPCs are no different, please expect that you can encounter mature content. Privacy In terms of privacy, the NPCs Viewer and Language Model both run on my personal computer. For all intents and purposes consider it as private as talking to me in local chat. In practice I am really not that interested though. Still, I may see what you've been writing to the NPC's whilst I'm updating/maintaining them. Also, the NPC can parrot its memories to another person, so maybe don't tell the NPC your social security number or other private information. I told the NPC my Social Security Number *Sigh* If you've told the NPC something you regret, let me know and I will delete it from it's memories for you. Later on I'll probably build something automatic for this so you can delete it yourself. I do intend to periodically delete old chats from the database to keep it performant anyway. I don't want the NPCs to disturb me right now! [Planned] We will likely be adding a toggle to turn off NPC's receiving/responding to your local chat. For the time being, since it's only Koge, simply walk out of chat range if you don't want her responding to you. [Planned] We will likely also add a toggle where NPC's will generally walk away from you and stay out of an area where you might be having a roleplay session you don't want NPC's involved in. Tips / Misc Tips for Roleplaying When roleplaying, the NPC's will generally understand Roleplay that is *enclosed in asterisks* best, and speech that is "enclosed in quotation marks". They generally understand [Square brackets as a Roleplay note] and (Parenthesis as out of character). In addition, there are some things you can do to help reduce the likelihood the language model gets confused. Consider the following opening sentence: Ai: *Waves to you* This is an OK way to talk to the AI generally, but it might incorrectly respond as though you were the opposite gender or like you were talking to someone else. Dropping some hints can help the language model give you a better conversation: Ai: *She waves to Koge* "Hi Koge, watcha doin?" A leading question might also give them a chance to reply with something more interesting. You can of course just chat to them normally, and they will respond like normal too. Alternate Display Name Example of a correctly configured Alternate Display Name If you like to play as multiple characters, or your Display Name is not your character name, it is possible to have the NPC recognize you with an alternate name. To do this, add the following to the description field inside any of your attachments, indicating your display name in the following format: DN,<My Alternate Display Name> We recommend editing the field of an attachment that is unique to your character, so you don't have to keep editing it. Where are all the NPCs? [Planned] To save on resources, we plan to have the NPC's only spawn when there are people nearby, so if you are hoping to toy with NPC's and the sim appears empty, you will find that if you enter the sim, the NPC's will then spawn. Currently whilst we're developing it's just Koge, one of Kokoro's Shrine Maidens, who can be found at the shrine. She's been left permanently logged in for the time being. Over time we hope to add lots and lots of random characters that randomly spawn depending on the time of day and location to make the sim more interesting~ Other Planned Features/Wishlist Ability to have NPC's follow you/lock NPC's in place (Eg. to set up a Roleplay scene with multiple NPCs) Ability to set a custom scenario Ability to add descriptors to attachments to help the NPC better 'see' you. Ability to start a new session (Long term) Maybe some adventure game modes like a visual novel. (Long term) Custom Roleplay UI that both NPC's and players could use, with roleplay tools like dice etc. Ability to regenerate a response from an NPC. Can I marry one of your NPCs? Our NPC's are there to be another fun aspect of the sim, but they're not here to replace humanity. The most fun you'll have with our NPC's is using them as a fun medium to bond with other players, much like the rest of the sim. Indeed, people have already had fun and connected together whilst playing with our NPC's and I hope it will stay that way. They are fun as a past time, but they are not a replacement for real people.
  12. On your next visit you may hear something different as you walk around Kokoro! "My feet? They make sound?" Why yes they do! That's because we've have developed a new sound system for our sim called Footsteps! What's Footsteps? Footsteps is a new system that plays different sounds as you walk and run, depending on the type of footwear you are wearing, and the type of surface you are walking over. How do I use it? Footsteps is generally designed to 'just work' however there are a few things you can do to make sure it works perfectly for you! The Footsteps HUD Adjust your timings We have done our best to make the default timings great, but every AO is different. You can use the HUD accessible from the sim menu to adjust your timings to better match your AO. Make sure your shoes are recognised Shoes need to be worn on Left Foot and Right Foot. If your shoes are attached to Hands, they will not be detected! Put our key phrases in your shoes descriptions to help Footsteps recognise them. Find the full details on configuring footsteps over here! We hope you'll enjoy the sims new feature!

    Footsteps

Footsteps is a system at Kokoro that plays footstep sounds as you walk. The system plays different sounds depending on the surface you are walking over and the type of footwear you are wearing! Use the HUD to configure timings to match up with your walking and running animations. Additionally, use the HUD to mute Footsteps. Accessing the HUD -> Click the Kokoro HUD (Upper left), then choose Footsteps Adjusting your timings The Footsteps HUD Click and drag the sliders to adjust footstep timings to match your AO. Timings are displayed in milliseconds (ms) First Step: The time between you pressing forward and your avatar taking its first step. Walking: The time between each step whilst your avatar is walking. Running: The time between each step whilst your avatar is running. Feel free to experiment, you can reset your timings at any time ( Misc ☰ -> ⟲ Reset). Tip: You can also enter a precise value by clicking on the digits. Automatic Footwear Recognition Footsteps will automatically detect the type of footwear you are wearing and play sounds appropriate for your choice of footwear. Important: Footsteps looks for attachments worn on Left Foot and Right Foot attachment slots only. Make sure when you attach your shoes that they are worn on Left Foot or Right Foot. Footsteps looks for phrases in the name and description fields of your attachments. If either field contains a phrase, they will be matched to a type of Footwear. If footsteps does not detect your shoes, try adding one of the following phrases to the objects description: Heels heel, pump, stiletto Sneakers sneaker, uwabaki, trainer, chuck, sports shoe Shoes loafer, mary jane Socks sock, stocking We aim to add more recognised phrases and footwear types over time. Mute Footsteps It is possible to mute both walking and running sounds in footsteps. To do this, click the digits next to either 'Walking' or 'Running' and enter 'off' in the textbox. Advanced Footsteps can display useful information including the type of Footwear it has detected along with the attachment, the material it thinks you are standing on and other information. 14. Wishing everyone a happy 2023! Looking back on 2022 2022 was a busy year for Kokoro! One of the first things we did in 2022 was to introduce homerooms as a weekly gathering for students and friends to gather and chat! Deco Club and Curry Club worked together to run the Valentines Park event Development began on building interiors that will eventually be used in our town as student accommodation We introduced movie nights, and Deco Club ran the Summer Games event! Kokoro's Castle Gallery: https://imgur.com/a/P0PdTiO Jetski Race Gallery: https://imgur.com/a/HCBmn5G Pillow Royale Gallery: https://imgur.com/a/F0XeVtE Our event winners~ Students gathered to plan Seiiki's future, and some initial layout plans were put together for the the phase 1 section of the town: Plans were made for a new collaboration based clothing store in our town, which involves an experience based system that allows you to try on clothes in store! A special new version of the uniform was made so we could enroll a very special student! We also made a flippy skirt~ We all gathered to do our second yearbook photo~ We started work on a new creators course aimed at helping students get into creating - The course involves learning a program popular with Japanese game studios - Metasequoia, and also texturing in Blender! We ran trial lessons on some of these courses to begin to work out the kinks and make sure it runs smoothly when the course starts for real. We also developed screen share laptops students can use to show teachers their work~ Towards the end of the year, things quietened down on the event side. Some small immersion improvements were made in the sim, including a new splash screen, smoother skybox teleports that don't play sounds, we also started working on a footstep sound system to increase immersion walking around the sim! Some quality of life improvements were also made, for example we made it so if you teleport out of the sim briefly and teleport back within two hours, your location is restored - You don't have to walk from the spawn! We also added a couple of help points to the sim as a trial way of helping new comers! We also started work on a new Tennis game, and although not strictly Kokoro related I released a Cheerleader and Tennis Outfit that will be perfect for just this~ Going into 2023 Help Wanted Building and development is requiring a lot of time, and as such in recent months events and services that I usually run have suffered as a result, indeed in recent months I've been so focused on getting things finished that I haven't run homeroom or movie nights at all! I'm conscious that this isn't great, so I'm choosing to scale back these activities and make them better instead. Homeroom I will now be running on a fortnightly basis on a Sunday, and Movies will be once a month for the time being. But I will actually run them! Promise! I could really use some help doing events and whatnot, so if students want to help on this front it would be appreciated! Development Focused Kokoro going into the start of 2023 is going to be focused on development efforts, this includes building the facades of all of the buildings in Seiiki, finishing the footstep sound system and tennis game. Although this means there will be less events at the start of this year, I hope you will find that the wait will be worth it! I look forward to going into 2023 together with everybody! Happy new year!!
  15. Hi Luci, welcome to Kokoro! We tie accounts to your SL username - you cannot change your username on the site. LL offers a paid service to change your SL username, if you change your username this way it will be automatically updated on the site the next time you visit the sim. The forum software is not my own, if I could I'd make the display name more prominent but it's a limitation we have atm
  16. Scripted Camera (aka Stair Cam) Toggle Commands has been added this morning

  17. 📸 Student Yearbook Photo 📸 Hey everyone! This years photo day is Sunday the 25th of September at 2PM SLT This is a once a year event! Come get your photo taken together with everyone including our old and new students!~ To help the event run smoothly, please arrive as early as you can as it will be busy! Got work/commitments? We can still get you in the picture! Get your hands on an Android phone and so long as you log in with a mobile viewer such as Lumiya we can sit you in with everyone! I'll be asleep! We've done our best to schedule the event to be during the day for most students - However it is impossible to do it at a time that is daytime for everyone because our students are from all around the world - We understand the time is not great for everyone. We think you'll agree it's still worth being there for - Get an early night if you can , we will make the photo itself as quick as possible so you can go back to sleep after! 🙏 I want to bring a friend! If you wish to bring a friend, you may do so but please let me know on the day - To manage crowds, the ticket machines will only be issuing student tickets on the day and I will need to let them through. (With plenty of notice, I will likely have my hands full towards the start of the event!) ~ Captain

  20. Also heads up I've got a new website, https://aiaicapta.in/

Visit my site to find all of my software for SecondLife, tutorials for creating things in SecondLife and eventually blog updates for my stores/product documentation.

Eventually it'll also serve as a place for each of my stores blogs. School updates won't be posted there.

  21. Random bits and pieces made over the last week~

Bathroom sink for the second apartment

The model is optimized, most of the detail is in the normal map

Simple Shelf for the Bathroom room before the shower room for holding towels and other bits and pieces, and a towel model too, will probably make some wicker storage boxes to go on top of this

I went and fixed the physics on Seiiki's Island mesh approaching the town, and also added a small path that leads to the bench, it didn't used to have it's own path and sat on a kind of slope awkwardly. Want to decorate this area at some point, I'd like to make some decent mesh flora at some point for decorating Kokoro with without lagging people out.

Maybe something for Goodwoods next projectimage.thumb.png.53ffe196415d558c1039c7a8f324bf54.png

  22. Currently we have a 4 hour day/night cycle, 3 hours of which are day time and 1 hour is night time. Not too long ago, SecondLife added the ability to adjust the length of the day-night cycle. We can have the sun rise and set whenever we want. So I was thinking and I would like to put forward my ideas for some changes to the cycle and the reasoning behind them, do you think they are a good idea? What do you think the day cycle should be like? Let me know! Thought process My thought process is a bit of a jumble, this is in no particular order:- Nightlife It would be good if Seiiki had some form of night-life, and I don't think a single hour of night-time is really enough time to enjoy night life Different things open at different times When we have a town, Having all of the towns roleplay facilities 'open' 24/7 will end up giving ghost town feelings, as people tend to congregate in just a few places rather than spread out and thus most facilities would be empty. Therefor I think that having different things open at different times would help keep the town feeling more lively with different things to do at different times, and the places that are open are more likely to be lively Kokoro should be mostly day We're primarily a school sim after all, and that anime OP 'start of day' time is probably the most anime school time there is, along with the rest of the school day, I think that a large amount of time should be dedicated to this Roleplay goes slower than real life Self explanatory, people roleplaying generally take longer times to carry out an action than someone doing it in RL, and often people want to roleplay things that are based on a time of day. Think festivals, Halloween etc. My idea I propose a 7 day long day cycle, where each RL day is a time of day, most of the week at Kokoro is day time, but Friday is our 'night' day where Kokoro's night life happens I think it should be 7 days because it makes it predictable what Kokoro will look like on a given day, making it possible to plan day and night time events Day Windlight Appearance Reasoning Monday 10am – 12am Start of the week Tuesday 12am – 2pm As above Wednesday 2pm – 4pm As above Thursday 4pm – 6pm A day that looks nice for after school activities/shopping, and also after school extra-curricular Friday 6pm – 6am A dedicated ‘night’ day Faster day cycle during this time, to keep night time to just one day Good day for night life, bars, clubs because people RL getting off work want to blow off steam. Saturday 6am – 8am Nice ‘before school’ time, feels like morning, a nice time to visit the town, shop, hang out Sunday 8am – 10pm Start of the school day, people have free time on Sunday so a good time for classes and morning activities etc Do you like or dislike this? Let me know what you think!
