They're just somewhere to put the students streams whilst we teach 3D~

My workflow has improved enough recently that I managed to model this with all the normals, textures and lods etc in a single day, which would never have been possible before. Hopefully the town will end up benefiting from all the stuff I've been learning

  5. The following article is a draft and details are not final! Students and Staff members are eligible to accommodation options in Seiiki. Why make Kokoro your Home? Living at Kokoro provides many benefits over living elsewhere. Here are some highlights: Privacy You’ll have great privacy in your home thanks to it being in a skybox and the camera distance limit. Your space is yours - We offer custom made security systems that make sure the only people in your space are the ones you invited in yourself. Quality Not only is your apartment custom built for the sim, but you’ll be living in a managed and themed town where nearly everything has been designed and made just for the sim. There really are no other places like Kokoro. Social Life You’ll have easy access to community space, shopping, parks and social places such as bars and restaurants where it is easy to meet like-minded people with similar interests. With Kokoro on your doorstep, it’s always easy to go and see friends, hang out at the town or in your school. Flexibility We offer an array of accommodation options with different rental tiers and offer discounts on rent for participating in clubs, classes and activities within the sim. We have accommodation for those who want to spend a little more and get extra, and we also have ways to get accommodation for those who are more budget conscious and it is even possible to get a space for free with participation in the sim. All of our accommodation comes with basic facilities, but we are able to also offer free Pre-Furnishment from our furniture catalogue. Accommodation Options We offer two types of accommodation - Apartments and Halls Apartments Our apartments offer maximum independence with their own kitchens, bathrooms and living space. Halls Halls are a more social form of living. You get your own private dormitory room, but share the building with other residents, having shared facilities such as kitchen, bathrooms, washing and drying etc. We offer dorms for single and dual occupants. Tier Our base tier is the tier before any discounts are applied. Current tier pricing: Type Bedrooms / Max Occupants Base Tier Luxury Apartment 1 / 2 200L$ /w Standard Apartment 1 / 2 150L$ /w Halls – Large Room Suitable for up to two occupants 1 / 2 100L$ /w Halls – Small Room 1 / 1 50L$ /w Tier is not charged per-occupant, it costs the same to have one person as it does to have two – You might find it more economic to choose to move in with a fellow student! We reserve the right to adjust our tier and discounts a maximum of once every 12 months for existing renters. Discounts We currently offer two types of discounts to help make our accommodation more accessible. Activity Discounts We offer a 50L$/w discount per (active) class/club or town activity each occupant participates in Organiser Discounts We offer a 100L$/w discount per (active) class/club or town activity each occupant organises/runs. Discounts are added up and subtracted from the base tier. For example, a Luxury Apartment (200L$/w) would cost 50L$ per week if you studied in one class (-50L$) and were a member of two clubs (-100L$). It’s possible to get accommodation for free if the occupants have enough discounts. Other Discount Details Activity - Discounts only apply to active clubs/classes etc that are regularly meeting up and the occupant is a regular participant in. If we feel this is not the case, we may choose not offer these discounts – That is at our discretion. Discount Eligibility - We check which discounts our occupants are no longer eligible for once every 6 months – Once in January and June. If the occupant has since lost discounts and the tier will go up, we will give 14 days’ notice after which the tier will be adjusted.
  6. Thinking of making an alt for a furniture store 🤔

Some of the people who were interested in flats were interested in having them pre-furnished.

My thinking is that I could make a small furniture store as part of a commercial venture, more of a reason to compete in terms of features and also helps make some money back for the sim. Such furnishings would be offered for free to students in our accommodation.

  9. On Ota-Con

To me, anime and manga are an art-form and a form of story telling with traditions and roots in Japan. It was never something that was meant to be sold and presented to you in the form of a professional fashion boutique or a perfume in a perfume store.

On SecondLife, it was a small hobby amongst like-minded friends, and a niche one at that. We squabble sometimes, but it is a community, we do know each other and often work together. It was never some big money spinning operation designed to be sold to everyone on the grid. We were never trying to get rich off this, but just make enough to sustain our own communities.

The outfits sold at Ota-Con are primarily ones from anime's about stories of fleeting youth, think school animes etc. And yet they are depicted on the bodies of mature adults, with realistic shading. The Maitreyas and the Legacy's of the world.

No self respecting anime artist would honestly draw this, and the only conclusion I can reach is that these events are not for people who care about these things, but rather people who just want to play dress-up and that's about as deep as it goes.

I've long wanted to get more people into creating things in SecondLife, but the message these events send is that creating things is just an exclusive thing for the professionals of SecondLife. Nobody is seeing creators in these events, trials and tribulations, just shiny products - This isn't the realm of ordinary people engaging in a community but professionals who have a final product to sell you in a showroom. Not to mention that these normie bodies they use, are ones that creators kits are exclusive items that require the approval of the store owner to receive.

That's not to say that there are no redeeming things at Ota-con, and I know that even some of my friends contributed items towards it. However, when I visit Ota-Con I do not feel that I am surrounded by like minded people, or that this event was targeted towards people like me, but rather we are an after-thought. It is somewhat alienating.

Mizuki had put a poster up to advertise Ota-Con in our sim, and I had mixed feelings but having visited Ota-Con my mind has been made. I know that Mizuki and Ni had contributed towards the Gura outfit.  In the end Kokoro Academy does not endorse Ota-Con in its current form and that is why I took Mizuki's poster down. I hope there are no hard feelings. It's just something I can't support.

  13. Status update status update..

This weekend Ni, Yuki and myself did a practice lesson of sorts for teaching Metasequoia, me and ni pretended to be students and learnt about the program from Yuki. Along the way we found ways for each student to share their screen simultaneously, fixed a bug on the pull down screen and prepared some class resources.

I've gotten better at focusing on my work, Yuki taught me a trick to stop distracting myself which was to simply put on a history documentary. I've nearly completed the Thong I was working on now, just waiting on an applier from Uti's scripter and a few final touches. I'm a bit low on L$ for sim rent which is why my focus moved to my store.

The apartments coming along, currently I'm working on the bathroom.

Random thoughts... Thinking with the apartments I might make it so that there are rental discounts that add up if a student is an active member of a club or class, also thinking maybe about having forum badges for 'passing' a class.

    I got a PS2 for some reason

    Sim Commands

The following commands allow you to customise various aspects of the experience to suit your preferences. Use any command in our sim by typing it into local chat. RLV WindLight The sim uses RLV WindLight to control the sky, lighting, and other graphical aspects of the environment. Use the following commands to turn the WindLight on (default) or off. /50 won /50 woff Scripted Camera When moving around the sim, sometimes the camera is scripted to tilt up or down at inclines to give a better view. Use the following commands to turn the Scripted Camera on (default) or off. /50 cam on /50 cam off Ambient Sounds The Sim's HUD plays ambient sounds that change depending on where you are within the sim and the time of day. Use the following commands to control the volume of ambient sounds. By default, the volume is medium. /1 amb.off /1 amb.low /1 amb.med /1 amb.high /1 amb.higher /1 amb.highest Safe Exit Presently, due to a bug in SecondLife, teleporting out of experience regions can cause temporary HUD's to get stuck to your avatar, along with RLV Restrictions when you leave the sim. Ordinarily, the only way to fix this bug is to relog. To get around this limitation, Kokoro has built a mechanism called Safe Exit which allows you to exit the region without this bug occurring. Click the exit button on your HUD to exit to your exit destination (Default: AMH) How to set a custom exit destination You can set your custom exit destination to home, amh or an arbitrary SLurl. Get an SLurl to a destination by right clicking a landmark in your inventory and choosing Copy SLurl. Exit directly from chat You can also exit directly from chat. The following commands are valid.
  17. Looking for Clubs? They're still there! Clubs can now be found under 'Activities' from the website menu. The change comes as we work to make the website support other types of activities such as Classes. ~Captain

  19. When - Next Sunday RLVa Requirement will be turned on next Sunday. If you log in with a viewer without RLVa you will not be able to participate on the sim. Why - Privacy For a long time we have been unable to obtain privacy within our sim, with users being able to peer-in, sit-teleport into private conversations or see the whiteboard in private meetings among other things. It has always been a problem. The issue became further apparent recently as we begun to develop student accommodation within the sim. Students should be able to shut the door and switch off rather than feel like there are still people making what they are up to their business. It is impossible to employ standard SecondLife parcels for privacy features due to our sim layout. We made several feature requests [1] [2] [3] to Linden Lab to try to get better parcel privacy features without success. Ultimately we tried to avoid requiring RLVa for a long time, as we know it prevents people on the default viewer or people who simply don't want to use RLVa from participating on the sim. But it is felt that it is holding us back too much, preventing enjoyment of the sim. By requiring RLVa we are able to set a camera distance limit and prevent sit teleports, allowing guests to enjoy privacy within the sim. Enabling RLVa Much like emails, so long as you understand RLVa it is safe. We've compiled an article which explains RLVa with links to further reading if desired. We recommend reading it if you are not familiar with RLVa, before deciding to enable it. Enabling RLVa in Firestorm
  20. We are amending our club guidelines to make sure that clubs listed in our club directory are active and that students can expect to be able to participate in them. Activity Reviews Twice yearly, clubs will now be reviewed for activity with the intent of making sure that our Club Directory, even if smaller, contains mostly active clubs that our students can participate in. The activity review will occur on the first Saturday of April and October. We will check the club calendar and ask the organiser to report on member activity also. If a club does not meet minimum activity standards, it will no longer be listed as an official club in the directory. Minimum Frequency We will be updating our guidelines to state that, at a minimum, club organisers should arrange a meeting on campus at least once a month to be considered an active club. Student Club Membership Limit In general, club activities tend to be more involved. It is felt that it is better for a student to be in a few clubs and spend lots of time in each than to be in many and have little time for all of them. Therefore, we are limiting students to a maximum of 3 clubs each going forward. Note: This does not apply retrospectively. Any student currently in more than 3 clubs is not affected but will not be able to join any more before they are below 3.
