  1. ? Student Yearbook Photo ? Hey everyone! This years photo day is Sunday the 25th of September at 2PM SLT This is a once a year event! Come get your photo taken together with everyone including our old and new students!~ To help the event run smoothly, please arrive as early as you can as it will be busy! Got work/commitments? We can still get you in the picture! Get your hands on an Android phone and so long as you log in with a mobile viewer such as Lumiya we can sit you in with everyone! I'll be asleep! We've done our best to schedule the event to be during the day for most students - However it is impossible to do it at a time that is daytime for everyone because our students are from all around the world - We understand the time is not great for everyone. We think you'll agree it's still worth being there for - Get an early night if you can , we will make the photo itself as quick as possible so you can go back to sleep after! ? I want to bring a friend! If you wish to bring a friend, you may do so but please let me know on the day - To manage crowds, the ticket machines will only be issuing student tickets on the day and I will need to let them through. (With plenty of notice, I will likely have my hands full towards the start of the event!) ~ Captain

Visit my site to find all of my software for SecondLife, tutorials for creating things in SecondLife and eventually blog updates for my stores/product documentation.

Eventually it'll also serve as a place for each of my stores blogs. School updates won't be posted there.

  5. Random bits and pieces made over the last week~

The model is optimized, most of the detail is in the normal map

Simple Shelf for the Bathroom room before the shower room for holding towels and other bits and pieces, and a towel model too, will probably make some wicker storage boxes to go on top of this

I went and fixed the physics on Seiiki's Island mesh approaching the town, and also added a small path that leads to the bench, it didn't used to have it's own path and sat on a kind of slope awkwardly. Want to decorate this area at some point, I'd like to make some decent mesh flora at some point for decorating Kokoro with without lagging people out.

Maybe something for Goodwoods next projectimage.thumb.png.53ffe196415d558c1039c7a8f324bf54.png

  6. Currently we have a 4 hour day/night cycle, 3 hours of which are day time and 1 hour is night time. Not too long ago, SecondLife added the ability to adjust the length of the day-night cycle. We can have the sun rise and set whenever we want. So I was thinking and I would like to put forward my ideas for some changes to the cycle and the reasoning behind them, do you think they are a good idea? What do you think the day cycle should be like? Let me know! Thought process My thought process is a bit of a jumble, this is in no particular order:- Nightlife It would be good if Seiiki had some form of night-life, and I don't think a single hour of night-time is really enough time to enjoy night life Different things open at different times When we have a town, Having all of the towns roleplay facilities 'open' 24/7 will end up giving ghost town feelings, as people tend to congregate in just a few places rather than spread out and thus most facilities would be empty. Therefor I think that having different things open at different times would help keep the town feeling more lively with different things to do at different times, and the places that are open are more likely to be lively Kokoro should be mostly day We're primarily a school sim after all, and that anime OP 'start of day' time is probably the most anime school time there is, along with the rest of the school day, I think that a large amount of time should be dedicated to this Roleplay goes slower than real life Self explanatory, people roleplaying generally take longer times to carry out an action than someone doing it in RL, and often people want to roleplay things that are based on a time of day. Think festivals, Halloween etc. My idea I propose a 7 day long day cycle, where each RL day is a time of day, most of the week at Kokoro is day time, but Friday is our 'night' day where Kokoro's night life happens I think it should be 7 days because it makes it predictable what Kokoro will look like on a given day, making it possible to plan day and night time events Day Windlight Appearance Reasoning Monday 10am – 12am Start of the week Tuesday 12am – 2pm As above Wednesday 2pm – 4pm As above Thursday 4pm – 6pm A day that looks nice for after school activities/shopping, and also after school extra-curricular Friday 6pm – 6am A dedicated ‘night’ day Faster day cycle during this time, to keep night time to just one day Good day for night life, bars, clubs because people RL getting off work want to blow off steam. Saturday 6am – 8am Nice ‘before school’ time, feels like morning, a nice time to visit the town, shop, hang out Sunday 8am – 10pm Start of the school day, people have free time on Sunday so a good time for classes and morning activities etc Do you like or dislike this? Let me know what you think!

They're just somewhere to put the students streams whilst we teach 3D~

My workflow has improved enough recently that I managed to model this with all the normals, textures and lods etc in a single day, which would never have been possible before. Hopefully the town will end up benefiting from all the stuff I've been learning

  11. The following article is a draft and details are not final! Students and Staff members are eligible to accommodation options in Seiiki. Why make Kokoro your Home? Living at Kokoro provides many benefits over living elsewhere. Here are some highlights: Privacy You’ll have great privacy in your home thanks to it being in a skybox and the camera distance limit. Your space is yours - We offer custom made security systems that make sure the only people in your space are the ones you invited in yourself. Quality Not only is your apartment custom built for the sim, but you’ll be living in a managed and themed town where nearly everything has been designed and made just for the sim. There really are no other places like Kokoro. Social Life You’ll have easy access to community space, shopping, parks and social places such as bars and restaurants where it is easy to meet like-minded people with similar interests. With Kokoro on your doorstep, it’s always easy to go and see friends, hang out at the town or in your school. Flexibility We offer an array of accommodation options with different rental tiers and offer discounts on rent for participating in clubs, classes and activities within the sim. We have accommodation for those who want to spend a little more and get extra, and we also have ways to get accommodation for those who are more budget conscious and it is even possible to get a space for free with participation in the sim. All of our accommodation comes with basic facilities, but we are able to also offer free Pre-Furnishment from our furniture catalogue. Accommodation Options We offer two types of accommodation - Apartments and Halls Apartments Our apartments offer maximum independence with their own kitchens, bathrooms and living space. Halls Halls are a more social form of living. You get your own private dormitory room, but share the building with other residents, having shared facilities such as kitchen, bathrooms, washing and drying etc. We offer dorms for single and dual occupants. Tier Our base tier is the tier before any discounts are applied. Current tier pricing: Type Bedrooms / Max Occupants Base Tier Luxury Apartment 1 / 2 200L$ /w Standard Apartment 1 / 2 150L$ /w Halls – Large Room Suitable for up to two occupants 1 / 2 100L$ /w Halls – Small Room 1 / 1 50L$ /w Tier is not charged per-occupant, it costs the same to have one person as it does to have two – You might find it more economic to choose to move in with a fellow student! We reserve the right to adjust our tier and discounts a maximum of once every 12 months for existing renters. Discounts We currently offer two types of discounts to help make our accommodation more accessible. Activity Discounts We offer a 50L$/w discount per (active) class/club or town activity each occupant participates in Organiser Discounts We offer a 100L$/w discount per (active) class/club or town activity each occupant organises/runs. Discounts are added up and subtracted from the base tier. For example, a Luxury Apartment (200L$/w) would cost 50L$ per week if you studied in one class (-50L$) and were a member of two clubs (-100L$). It’s possible to get accommodation for free if the occupants have enough discounts. Other Discount Details Activity - Discounts only apply to active clubs/classes etc that are regularly meeting up and the occupant is a regular participant in. If we feel this is not the case, we may choose not offer these discounts – That is at our discretion. Discount Eligibility - We check which discounts our occupants are no longer eligible for once every 6 months – Once in January and June. If the occupant has since lost discounts and the tier will go up, we will give 14 days’ notice after which the tier will be adjusted.
  12. Thinking of making an alt for a furniture store ?

Some of the people who were interested in flats were interested in having them pre-furnished.

My thinking is that I could make a small furniture store as part of a commercial venture, more of a reason to compete in terms of features and also helps make some money back for the sim. Such furnishings would be offered for free to students in our accommodation.

  15. On Ota-Con

To me, anime and manga are an art-form and a form of story telling with traditions and roots in Japan. It was never something that was meant to be sold and presented to you in the form of a professional fashion boutique or a perfume in a perfume store.

On SecondLife, it was a small hobby amongst like-minded friends, and a niche one at that. We squabble sometimes, but it is a community, we do know each other and often work together. It was never some big money spinning operation designed to be sold to everyone on the grid. We were never trying to get rich off this, but just make enough to sustain our own communities.

The outfits sold at Ota-Con are primarily ones from anime's about stories of fleeting youth, think school animes etc. And yet they are depicted on the bodies of mature adults, with realistic shading. The Maitreyas and the Legacy's of the world.

No self respecting anime artist would honestly draw this, and the only conclusion I can reach is that these events are not for people who care about these things, but rather people who just want to play dress-up and that's about as deep as it goes.

I've long wanted to get more people into creating things in SecondLife, but the message these events send is that creating things is just an exclusive thing for the professionals of SecondLife. Nobody is seeing creators in these events, trials and tribulations, just shiny products - This isn't the realm of ordinary people engaging in a community but professionals who have a final product to sell you in a showroom. Not to mention that these normie bodies they use, are ones that creators kits are exclusive items that require the approval of the store owner to receive.

That's not to say that there are no redeeming things at Ota-con, and I know that even some of my friends contributed items towards it. However, when I visit Ota-Con I do not feel that I am surrounded by like minded people, or that this event was targeted towards people like me, but rather we are an after-thought. It is somewhat alienating.

Mizuki had put a poster up to advertise Ota-Con in our sim, and I had mixed feelings but having visited Ota-Con my mind has been made. I know that Mizuki and Ni had contributed towards the Gura outfit.  In the end Kokoro Academy does not endorse Ota-Con in its current form and that is why I took Mizuki's poster down. I hope there are no hard feelings. It's just something I can't support.

  19. Status update status update..

This weekend Ni, Yuki and myself did a practice lesson of sorts for teaching Metasequoia, me and ni pretended to be students and learnt about the program from Yuki. Along the way we found ways for each student to share their screen simultaneously, fixed a bug on the pull down screen and prepared some class resources.

I've gotten better at focusing on my work, Yuki taught me a trick to stop distracting myself which was to simply put on a history documentary. I've nearly completed the Thong I was working on now, just waiting on an applier from Uti's scripter and a few final touches. I'm a bit low on L$ for sim rent which is why my focus moved to my store.

The apartments coming along, currently I'm working on the bathroom.

Random thoughts... Thinking with the apartments I might make it so that there are rental discounts that add up if a student is an active member of a club or class, also thinking maybe about having forum badges for 'passing' a class.

    I got a PS2 for some reason

  20. Start and stop individual streams 1. Hover over media button (Might appear as pause button) 2. Click More >> From the menu that appears below 3. Select any stream and click Play or Stop
  21. I added new sound volume options for ambient sounds

I found the volume a little quiet when listening through speakers.
